Camera+ update
Before this revelation I was happy with the functionality of the built in camera app, particularly with the additional ability to zoom in on your subject.
However, after using Camera+ now for a few weeks I don’t think I’d go back to the built in app.
The effects and processing that the app does right on your iPhone is very good. Ok so maybe on the example image below I’ve gone a bit overboard, adding the border effect and the landscape treatment among others, but all in all it just lifts what is otherwise nothing special.
This image was taken before the update that allows you to control exposure, as you can see the sky is a little (ok a lot) blown out.

Camera+ has recently been updated, most of the changelog is bug fixes but a welcome new tool is the ability to not only point where you’d like the camera to focus but with a second finger you can select the exposure of the shot.

touch exposure and focus
The is very handy when taking a photo that has a big difference in light, from one side of the shot to another.
You can choose either end or somewhere in the middle and the app does a pretty good job of capturing the scene.
Sure, photos taken with an iPhone are, well, going to be ‘phone photos’. They just don’t stack up against a dedicated camera, be it a compact digital or a DSLR but if you’re snapping away and want to share on twitter, facebook or email the features of camera+ are very welcome.
Below is a new video that covers the touch focus and touch exposure features.
