I know it’s never too early to be thinking about the holidays and Christmas. But when I decided to write this post I thought about two things. First, how the Magic Mouse was one of the most practical Christmas gifts I have gotten, and two, how this could be an amazing gift for someone this coming year. Over the past 9 months, I have fallen in love with my Magic Mouse and I absolutely love using it. Before I got it, I really thought I wouldn’t have use for it and that it would be another gadget gift that I really wasn’t going to use a whole lot of. But, I have definitely been surprised.
Now for those of you who may not know what the Magic mouse does, it is basically a multi-touch mouse. As you can see from the pic above, there is not button or scroll wheel. The touch of your fingers really do all the work on the mouse. You can do all the standard mouse clicks, left and right click on the Magic Mouse. It doesn’t look like you can, but trust me, it works great. You can also scroll vertically and horizontally with the Magic mouse by swiping your finger up or down or left or right. The Magic mouse also has a two finger swipe where you can swipe through photos in iPhoto or any app that uses Cover Flow, for example iTunes.
So why should you get this mouse if you are a Mac user? Well, here are a few of my reasons after using it for the past few months.
- The multi touch comes in very handy. When I first saw the Magic Mouse come out, I didn’t think much of the multi touch. It looked nice to have, but didn’t think it was a deal breaker. Well, believe me, it is a deal breaker now. I love the fact that I can use it in so many ways especially with vertical and horizontal scrolling. I have found that with apps like iPhoto I can go through photos much quicker than I could before. Instead of clicking more, I am now scrolling more, which for me is very nice.
- It is very portable. The mouse, I believe is the right size. It is about the size of the pics above. For me, it fits very well in my hand. Others have said it is low and so they can’t get a good gripe on it, I haven’t found this to be a problem. But again, I have very, very small hands (I don’t like to admit this, but I wear Women’s Small gloves, that’s how small my hands are). Since the mouse connects through bluetooth there is no plug in or USB adapter’s to worry about. It is so nice to be able to take this mouse where ever I go and always know that it can connect to my computer. Now the drawback of this is the fact that using your bluetooth on your Macbook drains your battery faster. But nonetheless, I think it is worth the tradeoff.
- It just works well and looks good too
For me, I like a product that works and I don’t have to worry about it breaking or falling apart. I also like when a product does what it advertises. This is the Magic mouse. I know this may not be the best reason to buy the mouse, but I just love the fact that it works great. Besides this, it just looks good. Like most products Apple makes, the product looks great. It is the sexiness factor that draws me in some times. What can I say?
So there you have it. These are my reasons for getting a Magic Mouse. I knew before I wrote this post, I would have a hard time explaining why I like it so much. It is one of those devices that you just have to play with in order to truly appreciate. To be honest, I was skeptical at best when it first came out and really wasn’t planning on buying one, but when my mom offered, I couldn’t say no. I am sure glad she came up with the idea and I decided to accept. Is it life changing? No. But, there is something about it, that just takes mouse usage to the next level. Is it worth the $70, well, it depends on whether you think the features of the mouse are going to be worth spending that kind of money. You can get a decent mouse for about $20-30. Personally, after trying out the mouse, I think it is worth the money you spend on it. Apple is also packaging up one of these bad boys for every new Mac you buy as well. So, if you are in the market for a new Mac, this would be a great time to try out the Magic Mouse.
So to my readers……. what do you think? Do you have one yourself? Do you like it? Think it is worth it? If you don’t have one, are you thinking of buying one? Why or why not?
