Lots of buzz around the internet today about the iPhone Tracker Software and the discovery that iPhones have a database file (called consolidated.db) that stores the GPS location of everywhere you’ve been. It is only on iOS 4 devices, which really is going to be pretty much all users, as long as they are relatively up to date.
Without getting into the privacy concerns etc.. that a lot of the commentary is covering I just thought it would be interesting to see what it’s all about.
It’s a breeze to install, simply visit the Git hub address of Peter Warden here, download the app and run it. It finds your iPhone backup file so you don’t even need to have your iPhone connected. Within about 45 seconds it presents a map of the world that you can zoom in on and see, exactly, where you’ve been.
Here’s mine opposite, I’ve been…. well on this day around the Northern Beaches of Sydney.

When you say “download the app and run it,” what does that mean? It’s a zipped file with no ability to install. What’s the trick? Thanks.
Hi,
I was having the same problem, and after some extensive searching found this link,
https://github.com/petewarden/iPhoneTracker/issues/14
If you click on the link to “download the binary”, this should do the trick, then simply double click on the iPhoneTracker icon,
Hope this helps,
Pete
Hi
Sorry I should have been more detailed
If you download and unzip it, just by double clicking you will be left with the app
Then either move that to your applications folder or just run it from where it is.
It doesn’t have an installer
Hope this helps
Another interesting post today re the iPhone tracker software, seems it is not as new as we all think
Read the post on macworld here
Any idea on where to get a copy that runs on OS X 10.5(.8)? The version linked to complains that it can’t run on that version of the OS.
Bruce
Sorry not sure about older versions of OSX
PS
Does this work with Lion? Doesn’t seen to run for me ??
I can’t get the program to run on Lion either. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
