Safari: reading list and offline content

It’s true, after a few days with Mountain Lion there is a sense of it’s nice, it’s new but there’s not really that much that is different from Lion.

I really like the new apps for reminders and notes, I’ve not used the dictation all that much (it’s hard in an office full of people – would drive everyone nuts). Like all OS updates though there is a lot of subtle changes, little things that you don’t notice even after many hours of using it.

Here’s one that I stumbled across by accident. Reading List has been around in Safari for some time now, it’s the perfect solution for stashing away web content that you want to spend time with at a later date. Of course having  iCloud behind it so that you can access and maintain the list from your iPhone, iPad and Mac is the icing on the cake.

But, did you know that you can read the content while offline?

I said I stumbled across this and it’s true, while working tethered to my iPhone the internet connection dropped out (Thanks Optus!) and accessing a page from Reading List showed me this message.

Sure enough, click the Show Reading List and select an item and it’s there!

I had no idea!

In fact I’m not even sure that this is new in Mountain Lion, perhaps if you’re still using Lion you can let me know, drop a comment here if this works in Lion as well.
